Badminton world number three Jonatan Christie saw his Denmark Open 2024 campaign come to an end with a second-round defeat on Thursday, October 17.
Christie was knocked out by Lu Guangzu of China in a tightly contested hour-long men’s singles match. After narrowly losing the opening set 19-21, the fourth seed from Indonesia fought back impressively in the second, dominating to win 21-8.
In the deciding set, Christie kept the score close, but Lu consistently found the gaps in Christie’s defense. The pivotal moment came at 18-18, when Lu seized control by winning three consecutive points to clinch the match 21-18.
Lu will face Japan’s Watanabe Koki in the quarter-finals on Friday, October 18, after Watanabe defeated Kunlavut Vitidsarn in straight sets.
Beginning with the quarter-finals, the Super 750 tournament will be available for live streaming on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the official Olympics app (subject to territorial restrictions). The ranking points earned in Odense could prove vital for the end-of-season rankings and the Race to Finals 2024 positions.
