Morning & Afternoon Results

Puerto Rico 3, Panama 1

The Super Round opened with an elimination clash between Puerto Rico and Panama at Okinawa Cellular Stadium. Puerto Rico struck first in the third inning, capitalizing on an error and a walk, followed by a two-RBI single from Kail Pena, the team’s first hit of the game.

Puerto Rico added another run in the seventh without recording a hit.

Daniel Miranda was dominant on the mound, throwing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and just one hit allowed. Ethan De Jesus and Yandiel Reyes handled the final two innings. Despite Panama loading the bases in the seventh, a forceout ended the game.

Cuba 2, Australia 1 (Extra Innings)

Cuba stayed perfect in the tournament with a dramatic walk-off win against Australia in extra innings at Okinawa Cellular Stadium, taking a big step toward securing seventh place.

Scoreless through five innings, Australia broke the tie in the sixth with a sacrifice fly from James McFarlane. In the bottom half, Yoan Aguila doubled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Moreno, tying the game.

Cuba’s defense shone in extras:

  • In the eighth, Leandro Perez made a spectacular diving catch to prevent a go-ahead run.

  • In the ninth, Jonathan Moreno made a game-saving diving stop and throw to first to end the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth, with Moreno starting as the tie-break runner, he stole third and scored the winning run on an errant throw, sliding head-first into home.

Italy 4, Germany 2

In the European derby, Italy earned a solid win against Germany at Nishizaki Stadium. Starter Federico Magalotti handed the ball to Santiago Arismendi after a rain delay in the fourth. Arismendi pitched four shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out four.

Italy took the lead in the third, scoring twice on a groundout and a wild pitch after Aldo Pavarani walked and Pablo Suarez doubled. They added an insurance run in the fifth.

China 11, South Africa 1

China dominated South Africa in their Placement Round opener at Nishizaki Stadium.

Xin Zhao led off with an RBI triple after a defensive error, and Haonan Chen followed with a two-RBI single. China took advantage of five walks and four errors to build a commanding lead.

Wiyu Liu earned the win, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing one unearned run on six hits and two walks. Xianbo Li closed out the game.
