Day 4 of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2025, presented by RAXUS, delivered drama, dominance, and critical victories as teams fought to stay alive in the race for the Super Round. Action continued across both Cellular Stadium in Naha and Itoman City Baseball Stadium in Nishizaki, with strong performances from Team USA, Chinese Taipei, Puerto Rico, and Panama.
USA 10, China 0 (5 innings) – USA Advances to Super Round
Team USA punched its ticket to the Super Round with a commanding five-inning, run-rule victory over China at Cellular Stadium. A four-run first inning set the tone, highlighted by Will Brick’s two-RBI triple, as the U.S. built early momentum against Chinese starter Yitong Li.
The U.S. offense exploded again in the third and fourth innings, with Grady Emerson, Aiden Ruiz, and Coleman Borthwick each recording two-hit games. Brody Schumacher sealed the 10-0 walk-off with an RBI single in the fifth.
On the mound, Christopher Sampson was nearly untouchable, throwing just 58 pitches in a complete-game one-hitter with six strikeouts.
Puerto Rico 1, Cuba 0 – A Classic Pitching Duel
In a tightly contested matchup at Nishizaki Stadium, Puerto Rico edged Cuba in a 1-0 pitchers’ duel that could prove decisive in the pool standings.
Puerto Rican starter Ethan De Jesus pitched four solid innings before handing the ball to ace Pablo Figueroa, who threw three scoreless innings on just 50 pitches—preserving his eligibility for later rounds.
The game’s only run came in the fourth inning: with two outs, Jorhan Castro advanced to second after Sebastian Rolon was hit by a pitch. Emanuel Garcia then singled to center, scoring Castro.
Cuban starter Marlon Garcia was solid, allowing just three hits, but received no offensive support. Cuba now faces a must-win scenario against Korea in its final Opening Round game.
Chinese Taipei 9, Australia 2 – Early Surge Seals It
Chinese Taipei capitalized on Australia’s missed opportunity in the top of the first and responded with a five-run outburst in the bottom half to take control early.
After Australia loaded the bases with two outs, Yi-Shiang Wang escaped the jam by picking off a runner to end the inning. In the home half, Chinese Taipei pounced: three consecutive singles and a defensive error brought in runs, and Shang-En Zeng capped the rally with a two-RBI double.
Wang delivered four scoreless innings before exiting, while Chinese Taipei added four more in the third off reliever Kristian Haeusler. Though Australia avoided the run-rule with two late runs, Chinese Taipei improved to 3-1, strengthening their Super Round prospects.
Panama 14, Germany 0 (5 innings) – Statement Win Keeps Hopes Alive
Panama came out swinging—and didn’t stop—in a run-rule, no-hit win over Germany at Nishizaki Stadium. German starter Emilio Goetz was pulled in the first after a leadoff bunt, two walks, and a pair of costly defensive errors. Panama quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
The third inning unraveled for Germany, with Panama scoring nine runs on four hits and three more German errors. In total, Germany committed six errors and allowed seven walks in their worst defensive outing of the tournament. Panama’s dominant performance keeps them mathematically alive in the race for the Super Round.
