Los Angeles Clippers coach Tyronn Lue expressed support for Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, who was recently arrested in a federal investigation into illegal sports betting and rigged poker games.
Lue, who has known Billups since age 17 and is the godfather to Billups’ three daughters, described the situation as difficult but emphasized his confidence in Billups’ character.
“It’s hard to process… I believe in Chauncey’s character. I know who he is as a person. I’ve been with him since I was 17 years old. He has my love and support always,” Tyronn Lue said.
Lue noted that when he recently spoke to Billups, the former NBA Finals MVP sounded composed and confident, despite the circumstances.
Following the arrest, the Trail Blazers placed Billups on leave and named Tiago Splitter as interim head coach.
