Basketball player Rudy Gay, who had a remarkable 17-season career in the NBA and won gold medals at the World Championships twice, has announced his retirement from basketball.
Insider Shams Charania reported that Gay has officially confirmed his retirement. He was selected as the 8th overall pick by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft but began his professional career with the Memphis Grizzlies.
In his second season, he set a franchise record for points scored in a single season, tallying 1,632. He also competed in the Slam Dunk Contest and finished as the runner-up for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award, losing to Hedo Türkoğlu.
Throughout his career, Rudy Gay played for Memphis, Toronto, Sacramento, San Antonio, and Utah. On the international stage, he was a world champion with Team USA in both 2010 and 2014.
