Thanasis Antetokounmpo is returning to the Milwaukee Bucks, signing a one-year, $2.9 million deal that marks his comeback to the NBA following an ACL injury. The 32-year-old forward will once again share the court—and the locker room—with his younger brother, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The move sparked some lighthearted commentary from former Bucks guard Jeff Teague, who played alongside both Antetokounmpo brothers during Milwaukee’s 2021 championship run. Speaking on his Club 520 Podcast, Teague mixed humor with respect as he reacted to Thanasis’ new contract.
“I see they’re running that championship squad back,” Teague joked. “I might publish a highlight reel myself and try to run the band back.”
Acknowledging Giannis’ influence within the franchise, Teague added:
“Giannis is a GOAT, man. He signed his brother—he’ll be courtside until he’s healthy, then back to the real courtside… the bench.”
However, Teague made it clear that Thanasis deserves more credit than he often gets.
“Alright, we talk about nepotism and that kind of stuff, but that boy was drafted too—he can hoop. I ain’t never gonna say he can’t play. We just saw his highlights, and he can go.”
Still, Teague couldn’t help but poke fun at the perception that Giannis pulls the strings in Milwaukee.
“Without Giannis, you just wouldn’t think [this deal] would happen,” Teague said. “Giannis is part-owner, man. I remember someone telling me Thanasis was gonna sign a two-year deal, and I was like, ‘Shut the f— up.’ Then he actually did it!”
Thanasis was selected 51st overall in the 2014 NBA Draft and has spent the majority of his NBA career in Milwaukee. Known for his energy, hustle, and locker-room presence, he has become a fan favorite—even if his role on the court is limited.
As he returns from injury, Thanasis’ future contributions remain to be seen. But one thing is certain: with Giannis by his side and a supportive locker room behind him, the older Antetokounmpo brother still has a place in Milwaukee’s championship culture.
