On the night of March 21 to 22 in Houston, the legendary American boxer George Foreman passed away at the age of 77.
Foreman’s family announced his death on Instagram, stating he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. The cause of death was not disclosed, and the family has chosen not to provide any further comments.
Foreman made history as the heavyweight champion of the 1968 Olympics and went on to win world championships under the WBC (1973-1974), WBA (1973-1974, 1994), and IBF (1994-1995) titles. His last title win in 1994 made him the oldest heavyweight champion in history. He gave up the IBF title on June 29, 1995, at 46 years and 170 days old.
Throughout his career, Foreman had 81 professional fights, with only five losses. One of those came on April 19, 1991, when he lost to Evander Holyfield in a fight for the WBC, WBA, and IBF championships. After a controversial defeat to Shannon Briggs by judges’ decision in 1997, Foreman retired from boxing.
