Tyson Fury may or may not step back into the ring, but the two-time world heavyweight champion is clearly preparing for a new chapter in the sport.
Fury, 37, announced his retirement last April, just months after his second points defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. Despite those losses, the Morecambe native’s performances reminded fans that he remains a formidable presence in boxing. Over the past several months, he has teased the possibility of a comeback—but his latest comments suggest that returning to the ring is now unlikely.
Speaking on FurociTV, Fury said: “There’s no actual reason for me to go back in the boxing ring. I’m 37 years old, I’ve been punched for the last 25 years, what do I want to go back to boxing for?”
Fury’s manager and close friend, Spencer Brown, offered a similar sentiment to Boxing News: “Whether Tyson does come back – who knows? Has he got an itch he wants to scratch? Maybe. But, at the moment, he seems to be very happy. His new Netflix documentary finishes soon, and then we might hear a bit more news. I speak to him every day and see him three or four times a week.”
While his fighting future remains uncertain, Fury is set to remain heavily involved in boxing. Brown revealed that Fury is exploring roles in management and promotion, leveraging his natural charisma and deep knowledge of the sport.
Already, Fury has begun supporting the promotional efforts for Agit Kabayel, who is scheduled to fight in Germany on January 10 at the Rudolf Weber-Arena in Oberhausen. The event will be staged by Queensberry Promotions and Goldstar Promotions, the latter co-founded with Fury and Saudi investor Turki Alalshikh.
Brown explained Fury’s new role: “They go back a long way, him and Kabayel, and we’re just doing a deal with Tyson now for him to join Goldstar. He’s been behind Goldstar for a long time … [He] would be a co-promoter if he does jump on board, and I’m sure he will.”
Though fans may miss seeing “The Gypsy King” in the ring, it seems his influence on the sport will continue to grow—this time from the promotional side.
