Many are still struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of Ricky Hatton, but none more deeply affected than his son and former professional boxer, Campbell Hatton.
The two shared countless cherished moments, evident in the joyful and strikingly similar smiles captured in photos and videos shared on social media.
Often called a “chip off the old block,” Campbell has clearly inherited much of his father’s charisma and spirit, shaping the 24-year-old into the person he is today.
Now, the former Central Area title contender faces the heartbreaking challenge of supporting his family through this unimaginable time, while knowing that Ricky’s legacy—both inside and outside the ring—will be honored and remembered for years to come.
“Heartbroken isn’t even the word,” Campbell wrote on Instagram in tribute to his father last night. “People have always said I was your double, and that’s never been truer.
“I looked up to you in every way. I can’t express how much I’ll miss our laughs and the great times we shared—moments I’ll cherish forever.
“I just can’t believe there won’t be any more. Love you, Dad.”
The news came as a devastating shock last Sunday when the boxing community learned that ‘The Hitman,’ aged just 46, was found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester.
A beloved figure in British boxing, both during his career and in the years that followed, the two-division world champion will be deeply missed.
Campbell, who retired from boxing earlier this year, had the unwavering support of his father, who was preparing for an exhibition fight scheduled for December.
A proud father, working-class hero, and legendary fighter, Ricky Hatton’s influence touched many lives, especially that of his son, throughout his remarkable journey.
