Chris Eubank Jr. is reportedly rekindling his partnership with Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre, the renowned head coach of Terence Crawford, as he prepares for his highly anticipated grudge match against Conor Benn.
The duo first teamed up ahead of Eubank’s 2023 rematch with Liam Smith, during which McIntyre guided the middleweight contender to one of the finest performances of his career.
Shortly after, McIntyre faced legal trouble at Manchester Airport when he was caught trying to bring a loaded handgun back to the U.S. Despite being arrested, the American coach avoided a lengthy prison sentence and, according to ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez, is expected to return to the UK soon.
Taking to X this morning, Rodriguez tweeted: “Following Crawford’s victory over Canelo [Alvarez], trainers Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre and Esau Diéguez will meet with Chris Eubank Jr in England ahead of his rematch against Conor Benn.”
‘BoMac’ comes off a huge victory in Las Vegas, having led Crawford to triumph over Canelo, the reigning 168lb champion, in a blockbuster fight last Saturday.
Meanwhile, Eubank, with a professional record of 35-3 (25 KOs), appears to have parted ways with trainer Jonathon Banks, who coached him to a unanimous decision win over Benn in April (Benn’s record 23-1, 14 KOs).
The eagerly awaited rematch between Eubank and Benn is scheduled for November 15 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Before they face off again, the rivals will come together for a launch press conference later today, where, as Rodriguez reports, Eubank is expected to have the expert guidance of McIntyre by his side.
The big question now is whether ‘BoMac’ can devise a strategy that allows Eubank—who is naturally the bigger man—to better leverage his physical advantages.
Although Eubank showed plenty of grit in their first fight, it turned out to be a tougher night than expected, leaving him hospitalized for a few days afterward.
Much of that struggle was due to the taxing weight cut. This time, with a 160-pound limit and a 10-pound rehydration clause, the challenge of making weight is unlikely to be any easier.
