Serhiy Lapin, a close friend and member of Oleksandr Usyk’s coaching team, recently revealed some surprising news about the boxer’s potential future plans. In an interview with dazn.com, Lapin mentioned that Usyk might consider transitioning to MMA.
“Usyk has always aimed to fight the best and create a lasting legacy in boxing. But as he continues to solidify his place as one of the greats, new opportunities may open up. One possibility could be stepping into the cage with Jake Paul under MMA rules. It would be an interesting prospect, especially if there’s money to be made. And we never rule out facing someone like Alex Pereira,” Lapin shared.
Usyk’s team has shown interest in a potential MMA bout with Jake Paul, stating, “Daniel Dubois is our priority, but we’ll see what other opportunities come our way. It could be exciting to step into the cage with Jake Paul under MMA rules.”
Additionally, Lapin mentioned that Usyk’s team would be open to working with UFC president Dana White, suggesting that if White moves into boxing, it could lead to more cross-sport fights between top boxers and UFC stars.
Of course, Usyk’s focus remains on his boxing career, with a highly anticipated fight against Joseph Parker coming up. There are also rumors about a potential IBF title clash with Daniel Dubois later this summer.
