On Thursday night, Mikaela Mayer will attempt to make history by becoming a three-weight world champion when she challenges Canada’s Mary Spencer for the WBA super-welterweight crown—now with two additional world titles added to the stakes.
Mayer (21-2, 5 KOs), a former super-featherweight standout, moved up in weight in 2023 after suffering her first career defeat to unified champion Alycia Baumgardner in a bid for undisputed gold. Since then, Mayer transitioned to welterweight, losing her 147-pound debut to IBF titleholder Natasha Jonas before defeating Sandy Ryan twice to claim and defend the WBO welterweight title.
The Californian now travels to Montreal to face Spencer (10-2, 6 KOs) on Canadian soil. Days before the bout, Top Rank confirmed that the vacant WBC and WBO super-welterweight titles will also be contested. “Thursday’s Mary Spencer vs. Mikaela Mayer showdown will now feature three world titles. In addition to Spencer’s WBA super-welterweight crown, the vacant WBO and WBC championships will also be on the line in Montreal,” the promotion announced.
Both the WBC and WBO titles were last held by Cecilia Brækhus, who recently defeated Ema Kozin by unanimous decision. The 40-year-old Colombian then announced her retirement, vacating the belts and leaving them up for grabs.
The remaining IBF title is held by Oshae Jones of Ohio, who is expected to face the winner of Spencer-Mayer for the undisputed super-welterweight crown in 2026.
The full fight card in Montreal also features rising prospects Arthur Biyarslanov (19-0, 16 KOs), Wilkens Mathieu (14-0, 10 KOs), and Mehmet Unal (13-0, 11 KOs). Fans can watch the event for free via Roku, Vizio, Tubi, and Pluto.
