Royston Barney-Smith showcased his speed and sharp attacking skills to claim a unanimous decision victory over Danny Quartermaine on the Joseph Parker vs. Fabio Wardley undercard at London’s O2 Arena.
Originally scheduled for last July on a Queensberry card in Bournemouth, the super-featherweight clash was delayed due to Barney-Smith’s injury and eventually landed on Saturday’s high-profile event.
From the opening bell, Barney-Smith’s precise right jab set the tone, controlling the early exchanges. Quartermaine quickly realized he was facing an exceptionally quick opponent, and by the third round, a powerful left from Barney-Smith visibly hurt him. The fourth round saw Barney-Smith continue his dominance, while Quartermaine’s efforts in round five were repeatedly thwarted at range.
Barney-Smith’s consistent movement and tactical acumen earned him the middle rounds with ease. Quartermaine’s aggression led to a point deduction in the seventh, further widening the scoring gap. By the 10th, a knockdown effectively sealed the contest, although Quartermaine managed to finish the fight on his feet.
The final scorecards reflected Barney-Smith’s control: 99-90 and 100-88 twice, handing Quartermaine his first professional defeat and marking a commanding win for the 15-0 fighter.
