Last night, one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the autumn took place at Wembley Stadium in London, where Daniel Dubois defended his heavyweight title against former champion Anthony Joshua.
Dubois showcased his dominance throughout the fight, knocking Joshua down multiple times before securing a knockout in the fifth round.
The event drew numerous notable figures, including Oleksandr Usyk, the last undisputed heavyweight champion from Ukraine. After the fight, Usyk shared his thoughts on Dubois’ victory.
Before the match, Usyk had expressed his expectations, stating that he believed Joshua would win, which would lead to a potential rematch with Tyson Fury. He had remarked, “Of course! This is a fight between an Olympic champion and a British champion. Anthony is on another level.”
However, following the bout, Usyk admitted in a brief interview that Dubois’ win surprised him, though he acknowledged that “this is boxing.”
“I thought Joshua would win. But this is boxing. It was a surprise for me. I expected Anthony to win,” Usyk told Sky Sports. When asked about his preparations for an upcoming rematch with Fury, he said, “Yes, tomorrow I return to my training camp and continue preparing.”
Oleksandr Usyk has faced both fighters in the past, defeating Joshua in 2021 and again in a rematch in 2022, and he also triumphed over Dubois earlier this year. After beating Fury, Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion, but he was stripped of his IBF title shortly after for failing to meet a mandatory defense requirement.
