Daniel Dubois successfully defended his IBF heavyweight title by defeating Anthony Joshua, prompting gratitude from Dubois’s trainer, Don Charles. Charles reflected on his journey since arriving in England in October 1974, when he attended the iconic fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
Quote: “It’s symbolic that I’m training a heavyweight world champion on the 50th anniversary of that fight. I love you, Daniel; thank you. And I thank your father for bringing you into my life. If I die tomorrow, my heart will be at peace. You brought me to my destiny. Thank you,” he expressed.
Reminder: Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round after being sent to the canvas three times earlier but managed to recover each time. After the fight, he remained upbeat and stated in the press conference that he is not considering retirement.
This defeat marks Joshua’s fourth in his career. He previously lost to Andy Ruiz in 2019 but avenged that defeat later that year. He was also defeated by Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022.
