Each year, the world’s top darts players battle it out on the Players Championship circuit — a vital part of the PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) calendar. Spanning 34 tournaments, this series plays a crucial role in determining world rankings and qualification for major events.
Entry is reserved for players holding a PDC Tour Card. However, if any spots open due to withdrawals, top performers from the PDC Challenge Tour are invited to ensure a full field of 128 competitors at each event.
These one-day tournaments offer a significant prize pool of £125,000 each. Even players who exit in the first round are guaranteed £1,000, making early exits still financially worthwhile — particularly for those lower in the rankings. Advancing to the third round boosts that prize to £1,500, providing additional incentive and support for up-and-coming talent.
Reaching the fourth round means a payout of £2,500, reflecting three match wins. Quarter-finalists each earn £3,500, a reward that can influence both earnings and rankings.
Players who make it to the semi-finals take home £5,000. Meanwhile, the runner-up earns £10,000 — a strong consolation despite missing out on the title.
The winner of a Players Championship event claims £15,000 and valuable ranking points. This victory can be a key stepping stone toward qualifying for prestigious tournaments like the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Players Championship Finals, and the World Cup of Darts.
Importantly, the only path to the Players Championship Finals is through this circuit. The top 64 players on the Players Championship Order of Merit at season’s end earn a place at the Finals, making every tournament — and every match — count.
