Nathan Aspinall, the 33-year-old English darts player, has had a challenging 2024 by his usual high standards. Struggling with a long-term wrist injury, Aspinall was unable to perform at his best and even had to take a complete break from the sport for several months to recover. After hoping to return to top form in 2025, he is once again facing injury troubles, which are making it difficult for him to regain his previous level of performance.
Earlier this month, Aspinall competed at the 2025 Bahrain Darts Masters, where he was narrowly defeated 6-5 by world number one Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals. Despite the loss, Aspinall showed improvement, averaging over 100, which gave him some hope for a recovery.
However, he faced additional challenges before the tournament even began, as he suffered a bug bite that caused his arm to swell, forcing him to briefly visit the hospital. Despite these setbacks, he pressed on, but his form remained inconsistent.
Last weekend at the 2025 Dutch Darts Masters in Den Bosch, it was evident that Aspinall was still not at 100%. In his opening match, he suffered a heavy 6-1 loss to Kevin Doets. Dan Dawson, commenting for ITV Sport, revealed that Aspinall’s ongoing issue was bursitis, an infection of the elbow. While the exact cause of the condition remains unclear, Aspinall has been taking medication to manage the symptoms. However, it seems this is something he’ll have to deal with for several more weeks.
Unfortunately, there’s little time for Aspinall to rest and recover. This week, he is set to compete in the Winmau World Masters, and next Thursday, his new Premier League Darts campaign will begin. In the Winmau World Masters, Aspinall will face Andrew Gilding in the opening round, and in the Premier League, he’ll face Humphries once again in his first match. Despite the injuries, Aspinall is determined to push through and compete at the highest level.
