Danny Noppert has secured his spot in the quarterfinals of the European Championship, defeating Belgian opponent Mike de Decker 10-6 in a strong performance.
Noppert got off to a fantastic start, showcasing his finishing skills with a stunning 124 checkout in the opening leg. He followed that up with a double 6 to take a 2-0 lead, and continued his impressive scoring with a 116 finish, putting him ahead 3-0 while De Decker struggled to find his footing. The Belgian finally got on the board with a 100+ finish of his own, and after a 14-darter, he narrowed the gap to 2-3 as they headed into the first break.
After the break, Noppert remained in fine form, throwing a 117 finish to extend his lead to 4-3. De Decker responded with an 81 finish, but Noppert’s consistency shone through as he surged ahead with an 11-darter and a 13-darter, making it 6-3. De Decker fought back to 4-6 with a double 12, but Noppert quickly regained control, hitting a 13-darter to bring the score to 7-4.
Despite a missed dart at tops, which allowed De Decker to take a leg back, Noppert wasn’t fazed. He won two consecutive legs to edge closer to victory, and although De Decker managed to secure another leg, Noppert sealed the match with a 70 finish.
With this win, Noppert is set to face the winner of the matchup between Andrew Gilding and Ricardo Pietreczko in the quarterfinals.
