Gerwyn Price has announced that he will not participate in this year’s Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. The Welshman shared his decision via Instagram Stories, revealing that he plans to compete in only two more tournaments in 2024.
Price was set to enter the qualifying tournament for the Grand Slam on November 1, but after a disappointing first-round exit against Daryl Gurney at the European Darts Championship, he expressed a lack of motivation for the upcoming competitions.
In his post, he reflected on the match, noting he played better than expected but acknowledged Gurney’s strong performance: “Gutted with the loss… but credit to Daryl, he took his chances.”
The former rugby player has enjoyed significant success at the Grand Slam in previous years, winning the tournament in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and reaching the quarterfinals in 2022. However, with his absence this year, he will lose £25,000 from his ranking, a figure he was aiming to defend.
As he looks ahead, Price is taking a break for the next month before returning for the final two events of the season, hoping for a positive finish to 2024.
