A total of £500,000 in prize money will be up for grabs at the Winmau World Masters 2025, taking place from Wednesday, January 29 to Sunday, February 2 at the MK Arena in Milton Keynes.
For years, the darts season traditionally began with The Masters, a tournament that initially featured eight participants and eventually expanded to 16, and then 24 players. However, the PDC has since taken over the iconic Winmau World Masters, which was previously held by the BDO from 1974 to 2019.
The Winmau World Masters has a unique format: although a set format is used, players must win two legs per set, as opposed to the usual three. The top 24 players in the world rankings automatically qualify for the main tournament. The remaining eight spots will be filled through the preliminary round on Wednesday, January 29. This round is open to all Tour Card holders, as well as representatives from the PDC’s secondary tours and affiliate tours.
The preliminary rounds begin with a pool phase, and the winners will advance to the last 64, where they will be joined by players ranked 25th to 56th in the world. These players will be guaranteed £750 in prize money. As the tournament progresses, the prize money increases after each match won in the preliminaries. The 32 players who make it to the main tournament will be guaranteed £5,000, with the eventual winner taking home the top prize of £100,000.
