Luke Humphries continues to assert his dominance in the world of darts, defeating Jonny Clayton 10-3 to advance to finals day at the European Championship. With aspirations of adding more titles to his collection, Humphries is eyeing the UK Open and the Masters as the remaining ranking majors he has yet to secure.
“I played really well, to be honest,” Humphries reflected after the match. “I told Dan Dawson that while I felt it was decent, I wasn’t sure if it was really good. Averaging over 100 is what you aim for, making you a tough opponent. My scoring and finishing were strong at the start, but I could have pushed harder towards the end. You can’t be too perfect.”
He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining high averages consistently, saying, “You expect me to hit 107 or 108 averages all the time, but that’s not realistic. I wish I could. Watching Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen in their prime, I thought it looked effortless, but it’s not. I’d rather win with a 91 than lose with a 110.”
Humphries also praised fellow competitor Ritchie Edhouse, who has been making headlines this weekend. “Some players thrive under pressure, while others don’t. Ritchie has been brilliant,” he noted.
As he approaches the two-million mark in the rankings, Humphries revealed that a friend has been encouraging him to reach that milestone. “Reaching two million would show how much I’ve dominated over the past two years. It would be exceptional, but I believe I’d need to win two majors or reach a World final to achieve it.”
