Luke Humphries dominated Nathan Aspinall 6-2 with an impressive 106.5 average to advance to the second round of the European Championship, inching closer to completing his collection of ranking major titles. Currently, Humphries has every major title except for the European Championship, the UK Open, and soon, The Masters when it transitions.
Reflecting on his performance, Humphries praised his scoring and highlighted key moments that swung the match in his favor, particularly his finishes of 122 and 152. He noted, “I felt it was a really good game. I hit a lot of 180s, and Nathan was consistent, but his doubles let him down in a few legs. If he had hit those doubles, it could have easily been 4-4.”
He acknowledged the pressure that comes with high-level play, stating, “When you play your best, it makes it hard for your opponent. I enjoy the long format; it suits me well. If I win the Euros, I’ll feel a bit devastated about missing two darts at the UK Open, as that would mean I’ve missed out on completing my ranking major collection.”
Humphries is determined to take it one match at a time as he pursues his goal of winning the European Championship.
