Nathan Aspinall has certainly faced a tough time recently with both injury setbacks and illness. After struggling with a wrist injury throughout much of 2024, it seemed like he was slowly getting back to his best in early 2025.
His performance at the Bahrain Darts Masters, where he averaged over 100 in his quarterfinal loss to world number one Luke Humphries, offered hope for a return to form. However, just when it seemed like things might be looking up, Aspinall encountered further difficulties, this time with a serious health issue involving his elbow.
After a bug bite caused some swelling prior to the Bahrain tournament, Aspinall’s condition only worsened, leading to a hospital visit and a diagnosis of bursitis — an infection of the elbow. While he’s been taking medication to manage the issue, it appears that the injury is still causing him trouble, and it may take a few more weeks to fully heal.
The timing of this injury couldn’t be worse, as Aspinall now faces back-to-back tournaments with the Winmau World Masters this week and the Premier League Darts campaign starting next Thursday.
Despite the challenges, Aspinall will be looking to power through, and his first match at the Winmau World Masters will see him face Andrew Gilding.
His opening Premier League match will be a rematch against Humphries, a tough start considering the injury issues. Hopefully, the “Asp” can manage his condition and start 2025 on a stronger note, despite the tough road ahead.
