The atmosphere in Dortmund remains electric as the 2024 European Championship progresses, with Ricardo Pietreczko ensuring the home crowd has a reason to cheer after his dominant 10-3 victory over Andrew Gilding.
Pietreczko, who impressed by edging past Damon Heta in the first round, laid down an early marker in this quarter-final clash, racing to a commanding 5-0 lead with legs of 19, 18, 16, 15, and 18.
While both players struggled to maintain the high standards set in their previous matches, Pietreczko capitalized on Gilding’s slower start. Gilding, who had stunned Luke Littler earlier in the tournament, attempted to mount a comeback in the second session, narrowing the gap to 7-3.
However, Pietreczko responded decisively, finishing the match with a flurry of three consecutive legs to secure his place in the quarter-finals.
Pietreczko will now face Danny Noppert, who has been in fine form himself, promising an exciting showdown as the tournament nears its conclusion.
