Jermaine Wattimena has joined Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert in the quarter-finals of the 2024 European Darts Championship, completing a strong showing for Dutch players in Dortmund. Wattimena triumphed in a nail-biting match against James Wade, overcoming a significant early deficit.
Wade began the match strongly, racing to a 5-1 lead with a series of impressive finishes, including a 14-darter and a 109 checkout. Despite being down 6-3 after Wade hit another 95 finish, Wattimena rallied back with two 14-darters and a 68 checkout to level the match at 6-6. Wade regained the lead momentarily, but Wattimena fought back again, leveling at 7-7 after hitting a 52 finish.
The match reached a thrilling final leg, with Wade starting but struggling to find his rhythm. Meanwhile, Wattimena took advantage, scoring a 137 and leaving himself on 124 after nine darts.
He completed the finish to secure his place in the quarter-finals, marking only the second time in his career that he has reached this stage in a major tournament. He previously made it to the last eight at the World Grand Prix in 2019.
Wattimena’s victory adds to the impressive Dutch representation in the tournament as he prepares for his next challenge.
