On May 10 in Durban, the spotlight was on the South African Cup final, featuring a classic Johannesburg derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The “Amakhosi” struck early, with Gastón Sirino calmly converting a penalty in the 10th minute. However, their lead was short-lived—just seven minutes later, Evidence Makgopa leveled the score for the Pirates after a well-placed assist from Deon Hotto.
The second half saw both sides adopt a more cautious approach, with chances limited and the match seemingly headed toward extra time. But in a rare attacking breakthrough, Yusuf Maart found the net with a decisive strike, securing the win for Kaizer Chiefs.
The 2-1 result marked Chiefs’ first South African Cup triumph since 2013 and their record 14th title overall. For Orlando Pirates, it was a third straight final appearance—but unlike the last two, they walked away without the trophy.
