Benfica head coach Bruno Lage has spoken highly of Chelsea duo Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16 encounter set for Saturday night.
Lage, who previously managed in the Premier League, described Pedro Neto as a “dangerous footballer” and hailed Enzo Fernandez as one of the world’s top midfield talents.
“There were actually rumours before Enzo [Fernandez] joined Chelsea that he was going to join me at Wolves,” Lage revealed during his pre-match press conference. “In terms of money, Chelsea have one of the best midfielders in the world in Fernandez.”
The Benfica boss reserved special praise for Neto, a player he knows well from their shared time in England.
“The Chelsea player I really know is Pedro Neto. He is so dangerous because he can go either way—left or right—when on the ball,” Lage noted.
Enzo Fernandez made his move to Chelsea from Benfica two years ago, following a standout performance for Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Pedro Neto joined the Blues from Wolverhampton Wanderers last year, adding pace and versatility to Chelsea’s attack.
The high-stakes clash between Chelsea and Benfica is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 PM Nigerian time.
