Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has pointed to managerial instability as the Super Eagles’ biggest issue ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Tuesday.
Ikpeba believes the frequent changes in the coaching setup have disrupted the team’s rhythm and continuity.
“The biggest problem is that we’ve changed too many managers,” Ikpeba said during an interview on PrimeSports with Mahlatse. “We had one coach for the first two games, and then a different one for the next two. It doesn’t really help with stability—there’s no continuity.”
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has cycled through several coaching changes in recent months. Finidi George was appointed following the departure of Jose Peseiro, only to be replaced later by Augustine Eguavoen in a caretaker role. Most recently, Eric Chelle has taken over as the latest head coach.
As Nigeria prepare for a must-win encounter, concerns over consistency and leadership continue to loom over the national team setup.
