Victor Osimhen will miss Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday eight clash against South Africa, SPORTS MACRO reports.
The Galatasaray striker was forced off with an injury in the first half of Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday. The 26-year-old was substituted for Cyriel Dessers.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle confirmed after the game that Osimhen would be evaluated before the team’s trip to South Africa.
However, according to Super Eagles media officer Promise Efoghe, Osimhen woke up on Sunday morning experiencing discomfort on his chin and will not be traveling with the squad.
Osimhen is expected to return to his Turkish club for further treatment. Nigeria is set to face the Bafana Bafana at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
