London’s Arsenal faced a defeat against Bournemouth in the eighth round of the English Premier League, with the turning point being the red card issued to William Saliba midway through the first half.
Saliba’s red card marked the third for Arsenal this Premier League season, setting a league record. Earlier this season, Declan Rice (against Brighton) and Leandro Trossard (against Manchester City) were also sent off.
In the opening eight matches of the 2024/25 season, Arsenal has already received more red cards (3) than in the previous two Premier League seasons combined (2). Saliba will now be unavailable for the upcoming match against Liverpool.
This is not only Arsenal’s first defeat in six months, but it also puts them at risk of falling behind Liverpool and Manchester City in the battle for the top spot.
