France international and Barcelona defender, Jules Kounde has voiced his support for teammate Lamine Yamal as a strong contender for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, despite the competition from fellow Frenchman Ousmane Dembele.
Both Yamal and Dembele have been named among the 30 nominees for this year’s prestigious award, but Kounde believes the young Spanish talent stands out.
“Lamine Yamal for the Ballon d’Or? You’re putting me in a tough spot, but I think he deserves it,” Kounde told Le10Sport. “I have a great relationship with him. He’s a team player and works incredibly hard. We have a strong understanding on the pitch.”
The 18-year-old Yamal impressed last season, netting 18 goals for LaLiga champions Barcelona and delivering standout performances in the UEFA Champions League. His rise to the first team came under the guidance of former head coach Xavi Hernández.
