The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made a final decision regarding the cancellation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Libya and Nigeria. Ten days after the incident, the CAF Disciplinary Committee has issued an official verdict.
Following an investigation, CAF found the Libyan Football Federation responsible for violating several provisions of the Africa Cup regulations and the CAF Disciplinary Code.
As a result, Libya has been awarded a technical defeat (0-3), while Nigeria receives three points, bringing them closer to qualifying for the final tournament.
Recall that the Super Eagles’ flight from Nigeria was redirected at the last minute to Al-Abraq Airport. Upon arrival, the players faced over 12 hours without access to necessary facilities, with responsibility attributed to the Libyan authorities. Consequently, Nigeria opted to withdraw from the match and return home, effectively boycotting the encounter.
In addition to the technical defeat, the Libyan Football Federation must pay a fine of $50,000 within two months.
