Ligue 1 is facing challenges with its broadcasting deal, and the French Professional League (LFP) is working to extend its partnership with the current broadcaster.
According to L’Equipe, the LFP and DAZN have until April 10 to finalize a new agreement. However, DAZN is seeking to lower the cost of the contract, which is currently set at 376 million euros per season.
At present, DAZN has only 500,000 subscribers for Ligue 1, which has led the platform to reconsider the deal it signed last year, which runs through 2029.
While DAZN is eager to continue the partnership, it is pushing for more favorable terms. Two possible outcomes are on the table: either the LFP agrees to renegotiate the contract, or the deal could be terminated altogether.
In a related move, Ligue 1 sponsor McDonald’s, in collaboration with DAZN, has launched a special promotion to attract new viewers. A special menu will be available at McDonald’s locations across France, and the first 120,000 customers who purchase the set will receive a three-month subscription to watch Ligue 1 matches on DAZN.
