The future of Chelsea’s new stadium is a major talking point, with one key option being the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge—a move that would require the club to temporarily relocate, potentially for an extended period.
According to The Times, if Chelsea proceeds with building a new stadium on the current Stamford Bridge site, the team could be forced to play at an alternative venue for up to seven years. Unlike Tottenham, who built their new stadium while continuing to play at Wembley, Chelsea may opt to use Twickenham, the iconic rugby stadium, as their temporary home.
The Rugby Football Union would reportedly welcome the arrangement, seeing Chelsea’s presence as a strong source of additional revenue. However, local opposition could arise, as the Richmond-upon-Thames council may resist the move.
