Thibaut Courtois, a legend at Real Madrid, revealed in his documentary that the club has also brought him the most heartache in his career.
When asked about the worst moment of his career, the experienced Belgian goalkeeper pointed to the 2013/14 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, during his time as Atlético Madrid’s starting goalkeeper.
In that match, Diego Simeone’s side led 1-0 until Sergio Ramos equalized in the third minute of added time, leading to a penalty shootout loss. “The most painful moment of my career? The Champions League final with Atlético Madrid against Real Madrid. We had a fantastic season, winning La Liga, and then reaching the 93rd minute of the final, so close to victory, only for it to slip away.”
It’s worth noting that Courtois missed nearly all of last season due to an ACL injury but made a timely recovery to play in Real Madrid’s triumphant Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund, which they won 2-0.
Additionally, Courtois has yet to miss a match this season.
