U.S. women’s soccer icon Christen Press has officially announced that she will retire from professional football at the conclusion of the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. The 36-year-old forward is currently playing for Angel City FC.
Press shared the news during an appearance on Good Morning America, describing her emotions as a mixture of joy, excitement, fear, and the bittersweet feeling of stepping away from the sport that defined much of her life and career.
A cornerstone of the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), Press earned 155 caps between 2013 and 2021, scoring 64 goals, which ranks her ninth on the program’s all-time scoring list. She played a key role in the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cups, helping the U.S. lift the trophy on both occasions.
Her upcoming retirement will mark the end of a decorated international and club career, leaving behind a lasting legacy in American soccer.
