Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has opened up about the club’s decision to let Christopher Nkunku leave, explaining the one factor that limited the Frenchman’s involvement.
Nkunku completed a permanent move to AC Milan this summer after being left out of Chelsea’s first-team squad and missing the club’s opening two Premier League fixtures.
The arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap added further competition in Chelsea’s attack, pushing Nkunku down the pecking order under Maresca.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s recent Premier League win over Fulham, Maresca praised Nkunku’s attitude but admitted that Cole Palmer’s form made it difficult to give him game time.
“Christo is a fantastic professional, first of all,” Maresca said.
“With us, he was very professional, training very well. The only problem with Christo has been that in his position there was another player like Cole, so it was difficult for him to get minutes.”
The Chelsea boss added that Milan are gaining not only a talented player but also a committed professional:
“They can expect fantastic things, first of all because he is very professional.”
