Chelsea’s depth in attacking talent poses a challenge for selecting the starting lineup. Head coach Enzo Maresca addressed why Christopher Nkunku has been starting less frequently than Nicolas Jackson.
Before the Premier League match, Maresca noted the importance of maintaining balance, stating that fielding too many attacking players could disrupt the team’s structure.
He emphasized that he has communicated this clearly to the squad, and everyone understands their roles.
“I’ve told them from day one that we can’t play with 7 or 8 attacking players; otherwise, there’s no balance in defense. Nkunku and Jackson can compete, and they’re both ready,” Maresca said.
He added that the healthy competition between Nkunku and Jackson is beneficial. Nicolas recently scored two goals in the last match, while Christopher netted three.
Chelsea is set to face Brighton on Saturday, September 28, in the sixth round of the Premier League. The Dailysports team has details on when and where to watch the match.
Additionally, Chelsea is keeping an eye on Bayer Leverkusen and Nigeria striker Victor Boniface, with reports indicating that their scouts attended Leverkusen’s recent match against Wolfsburg.
