Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has called for Manchester United to strip Bruno Fernandes of the captaincy.
Petit criticized Fernandes for his on-field demeanor, describing him as often “crying” when the team struggles and questioning his suitability as a leader. The former France international emphasized that a captain should manage their emotions and provide encouragement during tough times.
“For me, Fernandes exemplifies the issues at Manchester United. While he’s a talented player, his behavior on the pitch often leaves much to be desired,” Petit told Top Offshore Sportsbooks.
“He comes across as a diva and fails to support or uplift his teammates when things are going wrong. Instead of encouraging leadership, he displays frustration and disappointment.”
Petit added, “A captain should be a source of positivity and motivation. Fernandes’s behavior, particularly when he’s expected to lead both on and off the pitch, could negatively impact the team.”
