Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca has disclosed that Cole Palmer was not fully fit ahead of their 5-1 victory over West Ham on Friday night.
The Blues secured their first Premier League win of the season at the London Stadium without their key player, Palmer, who was replaced in the starting lineup by 18-year-old Estevao Willian.
Speaking after the match, Maresca revealed that Palmer had been experiencing groin discomfort in the days leading up to the game.
“Cole hasn’t been 100 percent over the last four or five days,” Maresca explained. “He tried during the warm-up today but felt something, so we decided not to take any risks. We’ll monitor his condition over the next few hours to see if it’s serious.”
Chelsea fell behind early after a stunning strike from Lucas Paqueta, but Maresca’s side mounted a strong comeback with goals from Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Trevoh Chalobah to secure a commanding win and all three points.
