The newly renamed “Unity League,” the latest iteration of the Super League project, was unveiled just a few days ago. However, the initiative is already facing significant opposition and challenges.
Today, the Union of European Leagues and the professional footballers’ association (FIFPro) issued a joint statement addressing Florentino Pérez’s initiative and the involvement of A22, the company behind the project.
In their statement, both organizations strongly denied any involvement or negotiations with A22 or other organizers of the Unity League. They also expressed concerns over the proposed format, which they believe would drastically increase the number of matches in an already congested football calendar.
Earlier reports indicated that 60 clubs had agreed to participate in the project, but the growing resistance from key stakeholders could pose serious obstacles to its progress.
