Brighton manager, Fabian Hürzeler offered insight into his team’s impressive 2–1 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, praising the impact of his substitutes and the belief shown by his players.
Goals from James Milner and Brajan Gruda sealed the win for the Seagulls at the American Express Stadium, with Erling Haaland scoring the lone goal for City.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the match, Hürzeler emphasized that the turning point came not from tactics, but from energy and attitude.
“Sometimes football is not too much about tactics,” Hürzeler said. “It is about energy, intensity, and togetherness on the pitch. The substitutes came in and made the difference.”
He added that the team’s desire to push for a winner after drawing level was crucial.
“You can always spread energy—it gives your teammates and the whole crowd energy, and that’s very important in football. After we scored the equalizer and made the substitutions, we had belief. We weren’t satisfied with 1–1—we wanted the second goal, and we deserved it.”
The result marks a notable win for Brighton, who continue to show promise under Hürzeler’s leadership.
