Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be without two key players—defender Levi Colwill and striker Liam Delap—for Tuesday night’s FIFA Club World Cup semi-final clash against Fluminense.
Both players are suspended after receiving their second yellow cards of the tournament in the match against Palmeiras, ruling them out of the crucial tie.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Maresca confirmed that recent signing Joao Pedro is likely to step in for Delap up front, a move that has fueled speculation over Nicolas Jackson’s uncertain future at the club.
“Now with Levi and Liam out, we’ll find different solutions,” Maresca said. “Joao Pedro is ready, and we also have Nico. For sure, we’ll find a solution.”
Maresca further highlighted the versatility Joao Pedro brings to the squad:
“I think Joao can play in all the attacking positions for Chelsea—that is the difference with Nico. I see Nico as just a number 9, but I see Joao in different roles.”
Chelsea will now look to adjust their lineup as they aim to reach the final of the Club World Cup.
