Flamengo is actively scanning the transfer market with the aim of strengthening key midfield positions ahead of the expanded Club World Cup. The Rio giants are focusing on finding a replacement for Giorgian De Arrascaeta, whose ongoing injury troubles have left a creative gap in the squad, as well as a defensive midfielder to add depth.
Andreas Pereira is among the top targets, with Fulham valuing the midfielder at around €20 million, making negotiations challenging. Lucas Paquetá has also been offered, but ongoing legal issues involving the player have stalled any potential deal, according to Pablo Rua from Coluna do Fla.
Head coach Filipe Luís has rotated several players to fill Arrascaeta’s role but has yet to find an equally effective replacement. The club sees a creative playmaker as essential, especially with a demanding calendar that includes both domestic and international competitions.
Jorginho is being considered as a candidate to strengthen the defensive midfield. Meanwhile, Arrascaeta’s recurring fitness problems continue to concern the coaching staff, who are carefully managing his minutes.
