AC Milan faced a narrow 1-2 defeat against Fiorentina in the sixth round of Serie A, leading their head coach, Paulo Fonseca, to express dissatisfaction with various aspects of the game. He voiced his frustration, stating he doesn’t want to be part of “this circus.”
Following the match, Fonseca criticized the officiating, particularly the penalties awarded during the game, describing them as part of a “circus.” While he usually refrains from commenting on refereeing, the Portuguese manager felt it necessary to address the matter.
“I don’t like to discuss refereeing, but this isn’t football. Football involves contact; a mere touch isn’t sufficient to award a penalty. We’ve seen similar situations this weekend. Then everyone gets anxious, and it becomes an issue. This is football, not a circus.
I love football, and I don’t want to be part of this circus. I’m not just referring to the penalty against us but also the ones given in our favor. How many penalties are we seeing in Serie A?” Fonseca stated.
In this match, Fiorentina goalkeeper David De Gea saved two penalty shots.
