Before Thomas Tuchel was appointed as the head coach of the England national team, there was considerable debate about whether the position should be filled by someone who wasn’t English. However, former “Three Lions” winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes the nationality of the coach shouldn’t matter.
According to the ex-Manchester City player, the fact that the Football Association didn’t opt for an English manager suggests there wasn’t one suitable for the role. He also believes that if Tuchel proves himself, these debates will fade away.
“If we had an English manager with the right credentials who was available, then that would be fair, but I don’t think there was. Tuchel was available, and his resume speaks for itself. If he comes in and does his job, it doesn’t matter where he’s from,” Wright-Phillips said in an interview with FourFourTwo.
