Manchester United legend Gary Neville has expressed concern that young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could be tempted to leave Old Trafford, following the exits of teammates Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.
Speaking on The Overlap, Neville suggested that Mainoo might be influenced by Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona and Garnacho’s impending transfer to Chelsea.
Mainoo is reportedly frustrated with his limited playing time in the Premier League under current manager Ruben Amorim, adding to uncertainty over his future at the club.
“Kobbie Mainoo cannot leave,” Neville insisted. “If they are letting him go, they have to bring someone in. I don’t think the manager is fully convinced by him.”
Neville pointed out that the youngster’s close relationships with Rashford and Garnacho could play a role in his thinking.
“He’ll be seeing their messages in the WhatsApp group and probably feeling left out,” Neville added. “He might be looking at that and thinking, ‘I’m next — I’m going to leave too.’”
