Genk manager, Thorsten Fink has explained why Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare was left out of the squad for Thursday night’s UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Lech Poznan.
Fink revealed that with Arokodare close to securing a move away from the club, he opted not to risk the player’s fitness or jeopardize ongoing transfer negotiations.
Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently in talks with Genk over a potential €20 million deal for the 23-year-old, who is said to be open to the move to Molineux.
“Negotiations are underway. A club is interested,” Fink told HLN. “It was too risky for both parties to play.”
Arokodare had an impressive season in Belgium, finishing as the top scorer in the Belgian Pro League with 21 goals.
