In the sixth round of the Premier League, Manchester City faced a challenging match against Newcastle United, ending in a 1-1 draw at St. James’ Park. The game proved to be a tough contest for City, who were unable to secure the victory away from home.
Following the match, Manchester City’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, addressed concerns regarding Erling Haaland’s ankle injury. Haaland sustained a painful blow during a collision with Newcastle defender Dan Burn, resulting in a bleeding wound.
Guardiola provided an update on the situation, stating, “Haaland? He’s got some bruises. But we’ll have a clearer picture in the coming days.” His words reflected both concern and optimism as the team awaited further assessments.
Guardiola also expressed his growing frustration over the incessant questions regarding Rodri, who is sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a severe injury. The Spanish midfielder recently underwent surgery, leaving a significant gap in City’s midfield.
“Rodri? Well, guys, I’ll answer you. I know you’ll keep asking me about him—of course, we’re going to miss Rodri. His physicality, his presence… I know all that, but he’s not here,” Guardiola emphasized, highlighting the importance of focusing on the current squad.
He praised the performances of Mateo Kovacic, Rico Lewis, and Bernardo Silva, who stepped up in Rodri’s absence, saying, “They played exceptionally in midfield.” Guardiola acknowledged the challenges the team faces without Rodri, stating, “I know that if we don’t succeed, it’s going to be because Rodri isn’t on the pitch. I need to find a solution. And we will find a solution. I would love for Rodri to be here. But it is what it is,” he concluded, indicating his determination to adapt and find ways to succeed despite the setbacks.
As a reminder, Rodri’s road to recovery will be lengthy, and fans will have to wait until next season to see him back on the pitch, as his surgery marks a significant period of rehabilitation ahead.
