Amidst poor performances and disappointing play, Manchester United winger Antony is facing increasing criticism. Former Red Devils players are openly questioning the Brazilian’s fitness.
Ex-Manchester United forward Michael Owen believes that Antony is not only unfit for Erik ten Hag’s squad but also struggles to compete in the English Premier League as a whole. He argues that the Brazilian’s flashy moves need to be complemented by speed, which he lacks.
“I haven’t seen enough positive contributions from Antony during his time with the team to justify him starting in every game for Manchester United. While he’s undeniably talented and came with a hefty price tag, they will be eager to get him back in form. However, I just don’t see his attributes aligning with the demands of the Premier League. I don’t think he’s quick enough. When he attempts to perform tricks, he lacks the burst of speed needed to get past defenders,” Owen stated in an interview with Metro.
Previously, English football legends have criticized not just ten Hag’s players but also the coach himself, questioning the rationale behind some of his decisions.
